Adopting CLOs into the family

Such has been the rise in CLO popularity that the asset class is no longer considered the distant cousin you want to give a wide berth to at a gathering. In fact, family offices are increasingly looking to bring CLOs in from the cold, including both first-time investors and seasoned participants growing their allocations, according to 9fin sources.

In one example of this, Luxembourg-based investment firm Alumia recently announced a partnership with CLO manager CIFC Asset Management to offer tailored credit strategies including CLOs and structured credit, to European investors including its family office clients.

“If you’re a family office, you need exposure to alternatives,” a CLO manager told 9fin.
