Chatham Asset Management has made another big move as it has hired Tom Flannery, the former senior CLO portfolio manager at UBS Asset Management (previously known as Credit Suisse Asset Management), for its forthcoming US CLO management team, according to several 9fin sources.
Flannery left UBS AM in February after over 25 years at the firm, and was the main portfolio manager for CSAM’s CLO management platform. He was listed as a “key manager” in the documents for CSAM’s CLOs, alongside John Popp and Andrew Marshak, until his departure, sources said.
The news of Flannery’s hire comes after 9fin reported last month that Chatham hired experienced CLO portfolio manager, Matthew Sosland. Sosland has been managing loan and CLO portfolios for almost 20 years and his recent jobs in the CLO industry have centered on establishing CLO platforms.
Chatham also hired CLO trader Andrew Chatham (no relation), in February.
To help get the CLO management platform off the ground, Chatham (the parent company) has also committed to providing equity for up to five CLOs, sources tell 9fin.
The hiring spree for Chatham is not set to end there, according to sources, as the firm is also looking for analysts to join its burgeoning CLO team.
Chatham declined to comment.
