Direct lenders in Europe hit their dealmaking stride in the fourth quarter of 2024, ending what had initially looked like a sluggish year with a flurry of activity. This late surge in new commitments helped end the year on a high note and boost confidence for 2025.

By our count, the Q4 jump in dealmaking meant the total number of European private credit transactions in 2024 was 17% higher than the prior year, although volume only increased by 3% to €76.6bn.
