US CLO portfolio overlap — Managers get CLOser, but more diverse

The average overlap between US CLO managers’ portfolios has increased since our last report in 2024. This report dissects portfolio overlap, as per the latest US CLO trustee reports, between managers for deals closed in 2023 and 2024 (see the bottom of this article for methodology).

At the time of this analysis, CLO and loan markets have been on divergent paths: new loan issuance is down, while CLO issuance has sky-rocketed. This shift means that CLOs make up a larger share of the loan market.
