Euro IG corporate issuance matches 2020 levels, poised to break record next year

Key themes that characterised the European corporate sector this year — AI-focussed borrowing, US corporates turning to euros, the rise of subordinated issuance — are expected to continue into 2026, as higher redemptions offset any pre-funding done in 2025 to take next year’s supply to new heights.

Total corporate investment grade issuance in euros year-to-date hit €419bn in early-December, according to 9fin data, which is a 15% increase over 2024 and essentially matches the record supply fuelled by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 (€423bn).
